Week 34: A Week Living in the Polochic?

Well this week we lived in the Polochic and that is a place here in Guatemala where they dont have light and water and they only speak Q´eqchi´. Well a part of this is correct and that is that we didnt have light and water and I spoke a ton of Q´eqchi´ as well. Well this is my week.

Monday- We had a good pday. We went to the caves and they were cool. And it was fun to go as a part zone. We ate subway and then wrote. I went to the office here and I got three packages from my parents and I am excited to open them on my birthday! We had NDJ or FHE with Hermana Nimia and a guy totally hit on my campanion and I wasnt a fan of that because like shes my daughter.
Tuesday- Well today we had a miracle happen. We explained to Hermano Otto about the authority in the church and we used examples and he understood it perfectly and he told us that he needed to hear that because it was his doubt in the church. We invitied him to church and he told us of course and I almost cried because he was baptized in the river Jordan  and he told us that he knew that it wasnt correct and that he needs to be baptized with something that has the authority. We then went and met with hermana Patti and she accepted a baptism date as that felt good. So now we have two baptism dates for this month and I am excited.
Wednesday- Today I hit 8 months in the mission and that was crazy! I dont feel ready to come home yet, I just want to stay out here on my mission forever, is that okay Mom? We had district meeting and that was good. We visited Hermana Tarci adn then we had english class and we learned I am a Child of God and the class really liked it. We had a problem with one of our investigators and we had to call President Curtiss about it.
Thursday- Well today we had a surprise division because of the problem of one of our investigators. (let me explain this problem for just a second, We have an investigator that is named Carlos and well he has been looking for our house to come visit us because he told me that I am his sun in his life and that my companion is his moon. And he has been following us and well my companion is very scared about that) Well I stayed here in Chamelco and I was with hermana Coello and we ate lunch in a park and the mosquitos ate me alive. I heard the song Come Away with Me by Norah Jones and I sang it at the top of my lungs. We talked to Carlos about how he cant be close to us and he wasnt very happy about that. We talked to church sercurity and I saw a part of fear factor in spanish and that was awkward...
Friday- Well today it rained hard core. We ate freaking roast but it wasnt as good as the roast from mom and dad but it was pretty good. Then my comp surprised me and threw me a surprise early birthday party because we arent going to be together for my birthday and I got my face smooshed in my face. We contacted and then we had NDH and we played some fun games. It was good.
Saturday- We walked a freaking ton. We walked 25 min to just have Patti not be there, and then we walked 30 min to her aunts house but she wasnt there so we left a note saying that we would come back to see if she would be there. We ate lunch and then walked 45 min to her house and she wasnt there so we walked 25 min to her aunts house and she wasnt there so then we walked 20 min to our next appointment and that was a blast. We had a good lesson with Hermano Otto and then we contacted a really creepy guy and then we showered with really cold water.
Sunday- We went to church and then went to go visit a member and we celebrated his birthday and that was good. We did some contacting after and then went to go visit our converso and we acted like we were indian and that was really funny. She was laughing really hard haha. We did dats and then watched the movie legacy and I like that movie a lot. Its really good.
Well that was my week and I told you that I was going to send you guys a lot of photos and that is true. I sent you guys a ton and I love you all and I will send you guys a spirital mesage next wek because I am running our of time. But like I love you all so much.

Week 33: A Hard Wake-up Call

Well I will just start with how my week was...
Tuesday- Today was a little pday and that was great. It was a lot of fun and we wrote and that felt really great to hear and talk with them. We had mini divisions and that was good. I was with Hermana Coello and it went pretty well. My compa is bien pilas and she put a baptism date with one of our investigators and I was really proud of my compa. We came home and slept great because it was a stressful day.
Wednesday- Today was not a very good day. Well we put a baptism date with an investigator and then my comp and I didnt get along at all. We got in a fight but you know what we had to keep working so you know we made up and that was good. We had English Class and that was good but my comp and I didnt talk afterwords....
Thursday- Well today was even worse. Let me just say it simply, my comp cried for 2 hours. We talked it all out and we started laughing again and it was good to be how we normally are. It was my wake up call that as a mom in the mission, I am not only responsible for me but also for how my daughter feels. Its my goal to put that into action this week.
Friday- Well today we did service. We painted the house of Hermana Nimia and the paint here is so different, its like liquidy and I dont like it. We started our fast and then my comp and I talked about FRIENDS and she is a complete Ross and I am a mix between Monica and Chandler. Then we talked about The Big Band Theory and I am Penny... thats pretty cool. We taught Otto and that went pretty great. I started to feel sick at NDH and we came home to not having light....
Saturday- Well today I was so sick. I woke with a feeling like I needed to throw up but since I was fasting, I couldnt and I had a really high fever. So we did divisons and I went with Hermana Nimia and my comp went with Hermana Braidy. I watched the cutest little boy dance salsa and I was so impressed. I didnt eat anything so that was a 2 day fast for me. And we didnt have lights again!
Sunday- Today we had a multi stake conference and that was weird but I was able to hear my favorite apostle, Elder Bednar. We came home and ate with Hermana Vicky and we did service for her. We helped her decorate her Christmas Tree and it made miss home a little bit. We tried to contact but that didnt work out. No one wanted to have us bless their lives with a wonderful message. We even had a member with us but you know, nothing. We tried to visit memebers as well but the same, nothing. And we still dont have lights.... Go team!
And today we went to some caves that are close to our house and they are pretty cool. I am feeling better and that is good but you know, the nurse is kinda worried about me but you know, its okay. I am alright.
Well mom, I got the packages and thank you so much. All the Elders are jealous because they are like, your mom loves you so much and I know that it is true. That you all love me so much so thank you!
Its crazy that this week I hit 8 months into the mission, how fast time goes by here!
I also heard something that I loved and it is from Elder Bednar, it is, ¨Its not hard to be a member of la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, its hard to be a member of la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días and live the gospel.¨ How true is that, it isnt hard to be a member but it is hard to be a member that lives the gospel and the principals of the church. That is my challenge for you guys, that you guys can start to live the gospel if you guys arent already. Well I love you all but like always, I cant send pictures today but I love you all and you are in my prayers.
I LOVE YOU ALL!

Week 32: To the Capital We Go...

Well I will first start off by saying that I am sorry that I didnt write yesterday but it was because we went to the captial to have my comp sign her documents to live here in Guate. But I am able to write now and this week was an adventure.
Monday- Today was a pretty chill day. We played soccer as Hermanas and I made a really sweet goal. Upper left corner and it was a good way to run. We then ate and there was a freaking taco bell but we didnt know that so we ate subway. We had NDJ with Hna. Nimia and we shared scary stories. And I am not going to lie, I am scared of the ghost that strangles people at night... thank you companion.
Tuesday- Today we didnt do a lot. We had a lesson with Brenda (Our converso) and that was really good. We had two other lessons but they werent that great. I dont really remember what else happened but you know that is the life of the mission....
Wednesday- Today we didnt do anything. We taught Hno. Ottto and then we had English Class. It was pretty good and the class is learning a lot really fast and that is always good. We came home and prepared to teach a lot tomorrow.
Thursday- Today we had zone meeting and it was so good. We recieved revelation on how to help our investigators to come to church. We had a good practice with Elder Calona who is our zone leader and it really helped me realize the importance of listening to our investigators and how that is going to help us understand and teach with their needs in mind. We then found our investigator Carlos in the street and that was a miracle. We then taught Hna. Fabiola English and then we went and visited Hna. Patti and she broke her foot. It was crazy because we havent visited her for about a month and then the day that we went, she was in her house and she really needed to hear about the gospel and know how much we care for her.
Friday- Today we had interviews with president and they were really great. It made me miss my family a little bit because Hermana Curtiss likes to ask me about my family and I showed her picutres and she thinks that we are all really cute. And I am sorry Grant, but you dont look like you belong in the family.... haha. I also found out that I have to go to the capital on Monday and I am not very happy about that because its 5 hours in a bus one way. We had a good NDH with a geat talk from Braidy. There were only 6 people there but thats okay because the spirit was there. We shared more scary stories...
Saturday- Today we worked. We went and walked with Hna. Sandra and invited her to church and we found out her problem. Her ex boyfriend is a member and her mom doesnt like it when she is with him or even close to her... so I dont know what we are going to do with that one.... Any ideas? We then went and visited Hno Otto and he started to teach some kids about the church and he bore his testimony about the church. He is freaking pilas and that is one thing that I am so glad about. He told us that he is coming to church and I am excited. We visited Hna. Patti and she is going to come to church with us. :)
Sunday- Today a freaking miracle happened. Well let me start off by telling you guys a story. So Saturday night I dreament that we went to church and there in Sacrament Meeting there were a ton of our investigators there. I dont know why I dreament that but my dream came true. We went to church with Hna. Patti and there at church were 6 investigators. 6. I am so shocked to see Hno. Otto, Hno. Carlos, Hna. Patti, Hno. Pedro, Hno. Marcos y Hna. Bety. I was so shocked to see their faces there ready to learn about the gospel. It was the primary program and all of the investigators loved it so much. It was so cute. We ate with Hna. Vicky with some Elders from Carcha, Elder Mondragon y Elder Flores. We went and visited a really big family that we met and they are interested in the gospel so I think that we are going to keep visiting them. And then we planned for our ¨trip¨ for tomorrow.
Monday- We went to the capital today. We woke up at 1:30 and left at 2:30 from Chamelco. We got to Coban at 3. We then left and got on a big bus and were there for 5 hours. IT was a good bus ride because I slept the whole time and I sat up front so I didnt get carsick. It was nice. We met some of the missonaries and that was fun. We ate little ceasers and it was so so so so so so so yummy. I miss food like that. We met some Elders that are serving in the Guatemala East mission and that was really awkward. The Elders in that mission are really formal and they are very different from the Elders from Coban. It took us about 5 hours to get home and we took a freaking sketchy bus from Coban to Chamelco and I was really scared but we were protected. We got home around 8:30 and I was really tired.
Well that was my week and I am sorry that I wrote a lot but you know.... I have experiences and stories that I want to share with you guys.
My spiritual thought for this week is I was reading in Alma 17. And I am sorry but I only have my spanish scriptures but in verses 2-11. I like the most. It talks about how the hijos de Mosiah are with Alma and how they are blessed because they prayed and fasted much. And that they were put through many afflictions and had a lot of problems, they were hungry BUT their spirit was strengthen. And the verse that I want to share with you guys is verse 11. Dice, ¨Empero seréis pacientes en las congojas y aflicciones, para que les déis buenos ejemplos en mí y os haré instrumentos en mis manos, para la salvación de muchas almas.¨ I like this verse because something that has been helping me is determining my attitude because that defines my actitude. And this week I am working a lot on how I can become more like my loving savior and I am so excited that I am willing and worthy to teach about this resorted gospel with everyone that is here in Coban.
Well I love you all and I hope that you have a great week. I am sorry, I dont have a way to send pictures today but I will send a lot next week!
Love you all!

Week 31: We Accomplished Our Goal!!

Well let me just start off by telling you that we have a loving Heavenly Father and there is no way that I can deny that He loves us. And that He listens to our prayers and helps us through all of our problems.
Monday- Well this pday was good but it was full of walking. And someone tried to steal my wallet from my backpack. What happened was I had my wallet in my backpack and we were in the market. Normally I walk with my backpack infront of me but for some reason I didnt do that. We were stopped looking at some things and a thought came to my mind that was simply, ¨do you have your wallet?¨ I turned around to see a guy with my wallet in his hand. I said in English, ¨Nope, thats mine but thank you.¨ This guy was not very happy with me and he got really sassy and I dont know what happened but I am so glad that thought came into my mind because I had my two debit cards in there and a lot of money because it was pday but dont worry, I learned from my mistake. We had FHE with one of the hermanas in the ward and it was really good but kinda awkward because they speak q´eqchi´ and I dont so I tried to teach them... it was interesting.
Tuesday- We didnt really do a lot  and the lessons that we taught werent really great. I dont know what happened but I didnt really feel the spirit today and my spanish was really bad today. Thats all that happened today.
Wednesday- We had district meeting and it was good and I learned a lot about the importance of the members and how we need their help a lot. We went and visited Hermana Brenda and that was great. We also had our first class in English and it went really well. I cant talk in spanish for the whole class and it was pretty weird but the students learned a lot. There were 12 people there and 4 of them werent members and we are going to have a lot more the next week.
Thursday- We had divisions and that was needed. We got two new investigators (that is important for later on in this email) and we talked to the parents of hermana Brenda about her baptism date and her dad said no but her mom told us yes so we are going to baptism her on Saturday! She is really prepared to become a member.
Friday- We had a very interesting day because we had the baptism interview of Hermanita Brenda and our district leader was so surprised that she is only 11 and she knows so much. We had NDH and it was good because we had 5 investigators with us and we got another new investigator (also important). We got to talk to one of our family investigators that we havent visited in 2 weeks and they said that they came because they missed us and we are going to have dinner with them on Sunday.
Saturday- We had the baptism today and it was so great because it was a small service but they spirit was there. It was great to she it because her brother (Hermano Jacinto) baptized her and afterward they were both crying in the baptism font and the spirit was so strong. And afterward we were pretty lazy and tired because it was a lot of stress that we just had one lesson but it was a great lesson and we helped our investigator and it was great.
Sunday- TODAY A MIRICLE HAPPENED. So to explain about the () in this email. So as a zone we have a goal to have 15 new investigators each week and for the week we only had 3 and we got a good talkinto about that by our district leader. So we planned to contact and we found and taught 12 new investigators today and it was a miricle because the people that we found are all so special and I know that they can go far and we found 2 new families and that felt so great. We had dinner with our family that are investigators and they make really yummy rice. We then went home and my district leader doesnt think that I know how to do dats but I do because I have been in the mission for 7 months.
This week I really realized that I am almost half way done with my mission and I am not ready for that at all. I just want to stay out here forever (sorry mom) but its true.
Well I cant send pictures because the internets here arent that great and I just hope that next week I can because we took some great pictures this week and I am so glad to be a missionary.
Mom and the girls in the family- What color skirts do you want? What color shirt do you want?
Dad and the boys in the family- What color tie do you guys want?
I dont know what to do because its a little different and I am pretty bad at picking colors fo you guys.
Well I love you all and I hope that this week you guys do fun things without me. I love ya!

Week 30: My Dream Came True This Week

Hello!
Well this week was really busy and let me just let you know that my dream came true this week and I am so happy!
Monday was a crazy day. We went to the market in jeans and it felt so nice to wear jeans and not a skirt. Man, I miss jeans. We went to Coban and that was always good. We printed off pictures. We had FHE with a member and we got to meet his whole family that are not members and I am praying that they will accept the gospel one day.
Tuesday- Today was good. We did a lot of stuyding and we made some pretty great goals. We contacted and we taught Tarci for the first time and we finally got past the friend zone with her. With her she is always like, ¨Hermanas you are my friends so lets talk about what friends talk about not about the gospel.¨ Well this week we were actaully able to talk to her because I started the conversation like, ¨Hermana Tarci this morning I was studying about our purpose here on the earth and I am just wondering if you think that we have a purpose here.¨ and that is how we started Lession 2 with here. We then went and visited Hna. Braidy and they needed us there. It was really hot but at night it was really cold. We have a new district leader and we got to talk to him on the phone and he seems pretty cool but I dont know yet. haha.
Wednesday- We contacted a lot and it was good because we met a lot of really cool people. We visited Hna. Brenda and we taught her a lot and she was really pilas and accepted all of it. We didnt really do anything else today.
Thursday- We visited Hno. Franz who is a less active and we got to know him a little bit better and it was really great because he said that he is going to come to church this week and that will be a miracle. We had mini divisions and that was good because I went and taught a lesson to one of our investigators and we put a baptism date with her and she is really excited to have a baptism date. We then went and visited a member and she shared her testimony on the power of prayer and it was so great. I felt the spirit so strong.
Friday- We taught a lesson with Hna. Tarci and we then went and visited one of our investigators that doesnt want to come with church with us. We invited him and he told us that he cant come because of his dad so we are going to fast for him. We went and visited hna. Bren

da and we taught her lesson 3 and she understood it perfectly.
Saturday- we visited a lot of members and it was great. We then went and visited Hna. Brenda and we talked to her parents because she is 11 and her parents are not very okay with her being baptized so we were able to talk to her mom and she was really strong on her not being baptized but because we fasted and we had the spirit in the room we were able to teach her mom the importance of her daughter of being baptized and she said that it will be okay but we still have to talk to her dad about her date. We also took a very sketchy taxi at 9:30 at night. It was scary.
Sunday- Okay so my dream came true today. We went to church and that was great. Oh I also hit 7 months in the mission and that is crazy! Well we left and one of our lessons fell through so we decided to contact and we were walking and I heard in English, ¨Hermanas do you want to buy some flowers.¨ I looked and there was a guy that was sitting in a garden and he said come here I want to talk to you guys. Well we went and we found out that he lived in Cali for 25 years and he knows English perfectly. Well I was talking to him and he said, ¨Hermana I want to hear something about God that I havent heard before¨ and so I was able to teach him about Jospeh Smith in English and he was really happy to hear about it. And he accepted a Book of Mormon and we have a plan to go visit him this next week. I have always wanted to teach someone and testify to someone in English and I cried afterwords because it was the best 7 month mark in my mission.
And today someone tried to take my wallet but I saw my wallet in his hand and I took it back and I talked to him in English and he was really mad at me but I will explain more of that next week.
Well this was my week and I am so glad that today is Monday because I really have missed talking to you guys and I want to let you know that I miss you all and I have been praying for all of you guys too.
Mom- there are seasons but just like Summer and Fall. Its pretty cold here right now but thats because it rains here all the time and there isnt sun right now. And when there is sun, its really hot. Like really hot.
Well thats all!
